Spaces

“Some places are meant for the world. Some are meant for you.”

Beyond our rooms, The Grand Hotel offers corners of quietude and spaces for shared stories. From the sun-drenched Verandah to the historic Library, every space invites you to linger just a little longer.

At the Table: Recipes That Remember

The Dining Hall

Dining at The Grand has always been an extension of its history.

Long before menus were designed to impress, recipes here were designed to endure. The Grand Specials are not reinterpretations. They are continuations. British-era dishes carried forward quietly, passed from chef to chef, learnt by memory rather than measurement.

Some, like Apple Charlotte, are rarely found outside old English kitchens today. At The Grand, it has survived decades, serving as tradition. Puddings, roasts, and basics appear much as they once did. Familiar to those who know them. A discovery for those who don’t.

Once Upon a Dance Floor

The Lounge

Before it became a place for morning papers and afternoon conversations, the Lounge had a livelier role to play. This was once a dance hall of the British. An elegant space where evenings unfolded to music, polished shoes traced careful steps, and the lake beyond served as a glittering audience.

Just beside it are two quieter companions. Rooms that once served as the Card Room and Library. Where afternoons disappeared into hands of bridge and polite competition. Today, the spirit remains. Less about winning, more about lingering. It is a room that remembers conversation as an art form.

Where Time Pauses for Tea

The Lake Patio

On the left wing of the hotel, the Lake Patio opens itself fully to the water. Bathed in sunlight through the day, it offers a sweeping panorama that follows the lake all the way to its farthest edge.

This is where tea tastes better. Where meals stretch a little longer. Where the view gently insists that there is nowhere else you need to be.

As evening settles, bonfires are lit. Chairs draw closer. Guests gather, often strangers at first, then companions by nightfall. Stories are exchanged and the lake reflects it all.
